Team 1595 is a student-led FIRST robotics team based at Saint George’s School in Spokane, Washington.  Our team was founded in 2005 by a group of students interested in having fun designing and building a robot and then competing with the robot against other FIRST teams across the nation.

Team 1595 made it known right from the beginning that we are serious contenders, winning the Portland, OR regional championship as a rookie team, as well as a judge’s award.  In 2006 we won the Autodesk visualization award for a team-designed animation of our robot.  2007 was a particularly successful year for Team 1595.  We finished 7th overall out of 86 teams in the Galileo division and again made it to the semifinals where we lost in a 3rd game tie breaker, equivalent to making the sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament. In 2007 we also won the Oregon Engineering inspiration award, which is the second highest award given a team at a regional competition, and we won the Delphi Driving Tomorrows Technology award, for our team-developed Mecanum drive system.  In 2008, we won the Xerox Creativity award for unique design of our robot and components. We are looking forward to the 2009 season, confident that we will prove that Team 1595 is a force to be reckoned with.

In Team 1595, students are at the forefront of every activity, from community relations to design and construction of the robot. They have the opportunity to interact with business and technical professionals in a real world application. These communication and group experiences have proved to be invaluable for the future of our team members. In the five years of Team 1595’s existence, we have gained an enormous amount of knowledge and experience, not only in the field of robotics, but also in many relevant areas of life.  Most importantly, we have discovered that learning is not only real and practical, it is FUN!
